As we reflect on the profound significance of this day, we want to express our deepest gratitude to the veterans within our company family and beyond.
Originally established as Armistice Day in 1919 to commemorate the end of World War I, which formally concluded on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, this day was renamed Veterans Day in 1954 to honor American veterans of all wars. The change reflected our nation's desire to recognize the sacrifice and dedication of all who have served in our armed forces.
While Memorial Day honors the fallen service members who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, Veterans Day is distinct in that it celebrates all American veterans—living or deceased, wartime, or peacetime—with particular emphasis on thanking living veterans for their service and sacrifices. Both observances are sacred to our nation, each serving its own noble purpose in recognizing those who have served in uniform.
Today, we are privileged to work alongside many colleagues who have worn our nation's uniform. Their experiences, leadership, and dedication continue to enrich our workplace. We also recognize the many among us who have family members and friends who have served or are currently serving. Their sacrifice extends beyond the individual service member to touch entire families and communities.
The freedoms we enjoy today—to pursue our dreams, to speak our minds, to live in a democratic society—were secured and preserved by the brave men and women of our armed forces. Some made the ultimate sacrifice, laying down their lives so that we might live in peace and prosperity. Their courage and selflessness humble us and remind us of the true cost of freedom.
To our veterans: Your service has not gone unnoticed, and your sacrifices are not forgotten. You represent the very best of our nation's values—duty, honor, courage, and commitment.
To those who lost loved ones in service to our country: We stand with you in remembrance and gratitude. Your loved ones' legacy lives on in the freedom and democracy they died protecting.
This Veterans Day, I encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect on the significance of this day. If you know a veteran—whether a colleague, family member, or friend—please take time to thank them for their service. Their commitment to our country deserves our eternal respect and appreciation.
